Treating addiction and leaving the mental health condition for later is one of the most common reasons residential treatment does not hold. The client returns to a life where the untreated anxiety, depression, or trauma is still fully operational. Without the tools or the treatment to manage it, the substance is the obvious solution again.

Treating the mental health condition in isolation without addressing the addiction leaves the behavioral patterns, dependencies, and social structures of the substance use disorder intact. The person is more stable emotionally but the addiction is still there.

Dual diagnosis treatment works because it addresses the interaction between the two conditions. That is the only place where lasting change becomes possible.

If medication management is clinically indicated alongside your addiction treatment, it is handled in-house. Not referred out. Not deferred until after discharge.
