Addiction lives in the body as much as in the mind. The chronic stress, physical tension, and nervous system dysregulation of active addiction do not resolve through talk therapy alone. Somatic and movement-based practices are increasingly recognized as essential components of comprehensive addiction treatment.
Yoga builds body awareness, breath regulation, and the ability to tolerate physical discomfort without the automatic impulse to escape it. Qigong and tai chi work with energy flow, coordination, and a quality of present-moment attention that complements the trauma-focused clinical work. Meditation develops the capacity to observe internal experience without being controlled by it.
These practices are not extras at Top of the World Ranch. They are part of the daily structure of treatment.
